The Division of Cardiology at Kawasaki Medical School is committed to the highest standards in the diagnosis and treatment of the multiple forms of cardiovascular disease, and our compassionate staff is providing high-level of innovative medical research, educational opportunities and community-based health care.
Research is on-going in many areas of cardiovascular disease within the division. Our special research focus includes: 1) study of the mechanisms of vulnerable coronary atherosclerotic plaque with pathohistology and intravascular imaging, especially the optical coherence tomography (OCT); 2) development of an artificial intelligence (AI) based automated diagnostic system for cardiac disease; 3) high-quality percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and medical intervention with OCT guidance; and 4) diagnosis of structural heart diseases with 3-dimensional echocardiography. In addition, in order to improve comprehensive patient care and research work we are running KIBIDAN-GO registry (Kawasaki Bioimaging Database for long term cardiovascular prognosis), that is a single hospital-based prospective survey of patients who receive cardiovascular imaging including echocardiography and coronary angiography at the hospital.
Our fellowship programs offer comprehensive training and experience in the diagnosis and management of patients with all types of cardiovascular conditions, including acute myocardial infarction, ischemic heart disease and PCI, congestive heart failure, cardiomyopathy, arrhythmias and catheter-based treatment, valvular heart disease, pulmonary hypertension, management of lifestyle-related dieases, and infectious and inflammatory heart disease. Fellowships in the division of cardiology emphasize clinical care delivery with a focus on compassion for patients and their families, and provide a foundation for tomorrow’s warm-hearted medical practitioners, physician-scientists, and clinical educators, in cardiovascular disease.
