Department of General Internal Medicine 2 is a unique academic department that includes gastroenterology, hepatology, and general internal medicine. The department was established in 2011. Nowadays in Japan, holistic medicine is demanded from even medical specialists working in a general hospital. However, recent organ-specific medicine sometimes conflicts with this concept. Since internal medicine covers a wide range of diseases, it is very difficult for medical specialists to treat all diseases. Certainly, our specialty is gastroenterology and hepatology. We are asked to treat patients with sophisticated and advanced techniques. However, to give holistic medicine to all patients, general medicine is essential in addition to special medical care.
We practice at the General Medical Center of Kawasaki Medical School that is located in the center of Okayama City. We are educating medical students and developing young doctors who can practice holistic medicine with well-trained gastroenterological and hepatological proficiency.
