Research Fields and Major Research Themes
The Department of Public Health at the Kawasaki Medical School is part of the clinical medicine division. While public health is often classified as social medicine or applied medical science at many universities, our department approaches public health as a discipline closely connected to clinical medicine. We aim to identify the causes and backgrounds of diseases and health problems, and to explore effective strategies for prevention and health promotion.
My main academic field is global health. In addition to research in global health, our department also conducts studies related to vaccination, preventive medicine, and health checkup data obtained through the Health Checkup Center of Kawasaki Medical School Hospital.
Our current research themes include the following.
- Studies on the physical and mental health of older adults in developing countries, particularly in Chiang Mai and Nakhon Pathom, Thailand, in collaboration with Chiang Mai University, Mahidol University in Thailand, and Osaka University, Hokkaido University, Tsuda University in Japan
- The relationship between food, nutrition, and health in developing countries, including research on hygiene and nutrition among schoolchildren in Cambodia and nutrition education for residents in mountainous areas of Nepal
- The persistence of antibody titers after various vaccinations among students vaccinated at the Health Checkup Center
- Vaccine hesitancy, particularly attitudes toward COVID-19 vaccination and related factors, using questionnaire-based research methods
- Fracture risk, prognosis, and lifestyle factors among participants in locomotive syndrome health checkups conducted at the Health Checkup Center
