1) Research Areas

The aim of our research is to prevent people suffering from any disease and to promote their health. Our research areas are mainly divided into two fields: biological, and epidemiological. In the biological research field, our main target is bone health. Since bone is recently recognized as an endocrine organ, we are investigating the relationship between bones and muscles. In addition, functions of miRNA secreted from osteoblasts are investigated. In epidemiological field, we are investigating the relationship between genetic factors and environmental factors in order to prevent diseases. We can promote the primary prevention to elucidate this relationship. In addition, we are studing the effectiveness of hepatitis B vaccination for university students. In the area of global health, we are conducting both physical and mental health surveys for overseas Japanese residents. We are also conducting research on Sarcopenia prevention for Thai and Japanese elderly in collaboration with Chiang Mai University, Thailand.

2) Main Themes

  1. Efffect of miRNA on osteoblast function
  2. Interaction between bones and muscles
  3. Physiological active factors affecting bone turnover
  4. Administration of miRNA to animal models
  5. Relationship between serotonin transporter gene polymorphism and depressed mood caused by job stress
  6. Patient analysis after hepatitis B vaccination
  7. Assessment of mental health status in overseas Japanese residents
  8. A comparative study of physical fitness and body composition between Thai and Japanese elderly for sarcopenia prevention
