Our mission

Our mission is to offer exceptional clinical care and support for patients with neurological disorders affecting the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and muscles. We also conduct cutting-edge basic and translational research to provide novel treatments and care to patients, and to educate next generation neurologists with comprehensive knowledge of the neurological disorders.

Patient care

Our department treats a wide variety of neurological diseases, from common to rare. We provide the latest treatment and care based on the precise diagnosis through team medical care by expert neurologists, nursing staff, neuropsychiatrists, and neurophysiologists.

Research

Our research goal is to treat intractable neurological disorders. To this end, we conduct basic research to understand the pathophysiology of the disease, and perform translational and clinical studies to establish novel treatments and care.

Our current research projects include;

  1. Anti-myostatin therapy for muscle-wasting diseases including sarcopenia
  2. Taurine therapy for mitochondrial diseases
  3. Investigating the neural mechanisms of postural control in humans, and neurofeedback treatment for neurological disorders
  4. Multimodal prospective cohort for dementia

Education

Undergraduate program

We take charge of the main part of the integrated lectures covering the entire clinical aspects of the nervous system for the 3rd year students. In the clinical clerkship program, student doctors learn detailed history taking, doing bedside neurological examinations, and decision making.

Residency program

Our residency program provides excellent training opportunities in all areas of general and sub-specialty neurology. We encourage residents to understand the underlying scientific principles and methods of clinical investigations through extensive exposure to patients with a wide variety of neurological diseases. The faculty and staff are committed to facilitate resident education and training.
