Pathology Department of belongs to the clinical medicine group. The primary focus of our work is human pathology (anatomic pathology, surgical pathology, and clinical cytology). We currently do pathologic examinations at the two affiliated medical school hospitals and participate in medical education and publication of research related fields. The name of the postgraduate course is Diagnostic Verification Pathology. Each staff members specialize in different organ systems and diseases, including breast, obstetrics, gastrointestinal, head and neck, neurology, bone marrow, placenta, genitourinary, and arterial diseases. Particularly, the work on breast cancer is the most active and includes contributions to the World Health Organization (WHO) tumor classification (4th and 5th Ed.) and the general rules for the clinical and pathological classification of breast tumors in Japan, collaboration with international studies of Ki67 evaluation, and participation in several group studies at the Japanese Breast Cancer Society. In addition, we are contributing to a study of gynecologic cancer as part of the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED), chairing a group study for an automated cervical cytology screening system, and have joined the publication of guidelines/ study of the clinical cytology reporting system. In addition, we organized the annual fall meeting of the Japanese Society of Clinical Cytology, a gathering for discussion meeting a neuropathology seminar, and a bone marrow pathology society conference. Our current areas of study encompass a basic morphological approach to pathology and clinical cytology, but we would also like to actively engage in translational research. We are always keen to collaborate with many researchers in Japan and from all over the world.
