Department of Anatomy: History

Right after foundation of Kawasaki Medical School (1970), our Department of Anatomy was founded by Professor Shigeyuki Deura as the 1st Department of Anatomy (Gross and Neuro- Anatomy, on June 1971) and Professor Takuji Ohkura as the 2nd Department of Anatomy (Histology, on September 1971). In 1976, Professor Fumiaki Osogoe founded the 3rd Department of Anatomy (Neuroanatomy and took charge until 1983). In succession to Prof. Deura and Prof. Ohkura, Professor Akira Ikeda and Professor Kazunobu Sasaki arrived at the 1st Department in 1974 and at the 2 nd Department 1990, respectively. Following reorganization in Kawasaki Medical School, Prof. Sasaki integrated the 1st and the 2 nd Departments and became Chairman of Department of Anatomy after Prof. Ikeda’s retirement in 1993. In 2008, Professor Kazunori Toida arrived at the Department, and has succeeded to Chairman after Prof. Sasaki’s retirement in 2013.
